We are delighted to announce that Patrícia Melo‘s novel “Menos que um” has secured the second position on the prestigious Crime Bestseller List for April 2024, curated by Deutschlandfunk Kultur.

The jury, comprising 17 specialists in crime literature from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, diligently selects four titles each month. Among the jury members are Hannes Hintermeier and Katrin Doerksen, both FAZ, Fritz Göttler, SZ, Ulrich Noller of Deutschlandfunk, SWR and WDR and Marcus Müntefering, Der Spiegel.

Patrícia shares this list with authors such as Louisa Luna, Danya Kukafka, or Hervé Le Corre, among others.

HBO Max’s City of God series will follow in the footsteps of the film by Fernando Meirelles and will also be based on Paulo Lins’ book “City of God”. The plot will take place two decades after that of the original feature film. The narrative will follow the current lives of the characters seen in the 2002 film, showing what happened to them. As for the cast, Roberta Rodrigues (who played Berenice) and Thiago Martins (who played Lampião) have already confirmed their participation and will return to the universe created by Lins. Another return that has already been confirmed is that of Alexandre Rodrigues, who will reassume the role of Buscapé and will narrate the new story.

The production will feature six episodes and shooting will start in the middle of this year. There is no exact premiere date or forecast for the series to be available for streaming yet, but we will keep you posted. The series will be launched globally on the same day.

The homonymous Academy Award-nominated movie by Meirelles, released in 2002, is the 2nd most-watched foreign language film in the world according to a survey conducted by the online platform Preply of the most popular productions on IMDb.

“Except for My Heart, All Is Well”, the most recent novel by Héctor Abad, occupies the 1st place of the bestselling list of the leading Colombian newspaper El Tiempo for 23 weeks since its publication in October 2022. “La Oculta” is currently number 3 on the list.

Among the most successful Spanish-language publications of the whole of 2022, Abad is in fourth place after Isabel Allende, Leonardo Padura, and Almudena Grandes, according to the Colombian Vanguardia.

The prestigious magazine Visão Júnior considers “The Mystery of the Stinky Sock” by Maria Inês Almeida and Flávia Lins e Silva, illustrated by David Pintor, winner of the Andersen Prize 2015, as one of the Books of the Year 2022 for children aged 6 to 10 years. The selections are organised in three age groups that suit the three cycles of basic education, even if these recommendations always depend on the fluency and maturity of those who will read. There was room for short stories, poetry, plays, encyclopaedias and albums. A parade of extraordinary books that gave a lot of colour to 2022. Visão is a prestigious weekly news magazine in Portugal, and Visão Júnior is the only major information magazine aimed at children and young people, as well as the only one recommended by the National Reading Plan.

Phenotypes written by Paulo Scott and translated into English by Daniel Hahn, has been longlisted for the 2022 International Booker Prize. The longlist of 13 titles has been selected from 135 submissions. The English edition was published at And Other Stories in January this year.
This is only the second Brazilian title to make the list, the first being A Cup of Rage by Raduan Nassar. The shortlist will be announced on 7 April and the winners of the prize will be named on 26 May 2022.
