We are delighted to announce that Tatiana Salem Levy has been included in the second selection for the Jan Michalski Prize for Literature 2026 for her novel “Vista Chinesa”.

Awarded annually by the Jan Michalski Foundation since 2010, the prize celebrates an outstanding work of world literature, regardless of genre or original language. Its distinctive international scope brings together works of fiction and non-fiction from around the world, with books nominated exclusively by the members of its international jury.

The shortlist includes 5 titles chosen from the 14 works initially nominated for the prize.

The winners of the Jan Michalski Prize receive a specially selected work of art, as well as CHF 50,000, enabling them to devote more time to their writing.

Previous winners of the prize include Guadalupe Nettel, Kate Beaton, Mia Couto, Zeruya Shalev and Olga Tokarczuk, among others.

We are excited to share that our author Lídia Jorge is the recipient of this year’s Camões Prize!

The Camões Prize is considered the most prestigious literary award in the Portuguese-speaking world. It is awarded for a body of work that contributes to the dissemination and recognition of the Portuguese language. It is awarded annually since 1989 by the National Book, Archives and Libraries Department and the Brazilian National Library Foundation. The winner is chosen by a specially designated jury, with representatives from Portugal, Brazil and Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP).

This year’s vote fell unanimously on Lídia Jorge, whose “dense poetic prose” the jury highlighted, as well as her addressing themes such as “the transition to democracy in Portugal, the condition of women, emigration, generational conflicts, social change and the role of collective memory in the construction of contemporary identity.”

Among the former recipients are Miguel Torga, Rachel de Queiroz, Jorge Amado, José Saramago, Pepetela, Sophia de Mello Breyner, Rubem Fonseca, Agustina Bessa-Luís, Lygia Fagundes Telles, António Lobo Antunes, Mia Couto, Hélia Correia, Raduan Nassar, Germano Almeida, Chico Buarque, Paulina Chiziane and Ana Paula Tavares.

The distinction is endowed with €100,000.

“Less Than One” by Patrícia Melo has been longlisted for the Grand Prix de littérature policière 2026 in the category of best translated novel. It was published in France by Buchet-Chastel and translated by Élodie Dupau.

Founded in 1948 by Maurice-Bernard Endrèbe, the Grand Prix de littérature policière honours two noir/crime novels each year, one in French and one in translation. Past winners in the category of translated novel include Patricia Highsmith, E.V. Cunningham, Mary Higgins Clark, Manuel Vázquez Montalbán, Elizabeth George, Arturo Pérez-Reverte, Michael Connelly, Camilla Läckberg and Víctor del Árbol. Previous recipients of the Prize who are represented by MertinWitt are Eugenia Almeida and Boris Quercia.

This year’s winners will be announced on September 24th.

We are proud to announce that Lídia Jorge has been awarded the Austrian State Prize for European Literature 2026 by the Federal Chancellery for Arts, Culture, and Media. Established in 1965, the prize honours the literary oeuvre of European authors with strong international visibility, documented through translations. The distinction is endowed with 25,000 Euros and awarded annually during the Salzburg Festival.

“For many decades, her writing has championed human equality and the value of life in a highly poetic manner. I have the deepest admiration for the author and poet Lídia Jorge. My warmest congratulations!”, states Andreas Babler, Vice-Chancellor and Federal Minister for the Arts and Culture in Austria.

The five-member jury explains that through her polyphonic and testimonial writing, Lídia Jorge leads readers “into the realms of deep uncertainty, where nothing is sublime or symbolic, but everything is significant.”

The most recent recipients of the State Prize are Serhij Zhadan, Joanna Bator, Marie NDiaye, Ali Smith, László Krasznahorkai, Drago Jančar, Michel Houellebecq, Zadie Smith and Karl Ove Knausgård.

We are pleased to announce that applications are now open for Translating Chile 2027, with the deadline being 31 July 2026, at 23:59 Chile Continental Time. All information, in English and Spanish, are available here. Submissions can be made via the link on this page.

The program provides full or partial funding for projects proposed by foreign publishers for the translation and publication of Chilean literary works, into foreign languages other than Spanish, whether classical or contemporary, fiction or non-fiction, in the following genres: novels, short stories, poetry, essays, graphic narrative, drama, children and youth literature, and memoirs (letters, chronicles, autobiographies, biographies). These works may be published in print and/or digital formats. Applications that intend to publish the translated work exclusively on a print-on-demand basis will not be accepted.

All publishing houses are invited to submit their translation projects for consideration. The program offers funding of up to USD 6,000 per selected project, covering translation and printing costs. To participate, applicants must nominate an experienced translator with a proven track record, and a professional proofreader to ensure the quality and accuracy of the translation.

The list of eligible applications will be published on 17 August and the final results will be announced on 12 October 2026.

We are happy to announce that our author Boris Quercia has been awarded the 2025 Chilean Academy of Fine Arts Award, in the Agustín Sirén category, presided over by a distinguished group of Chilean artists. He received this distinction for his outstanding and multifaceted artistic career, his extraordinary creative talent, and his cross-disciplinary success across multiple artistic fields, through which he has forged a deep connection with audiences and reflected contemporary Chilean identity and culture. The award ceremony will take place on April 27.

The Chilean Academy of Fine Arts annually grants four awards, which are public recognitions given to individuals who have distinguished themselves as creators in various artistic fields, or to institutions and performers who have worked to promote, in Chile or abroad, the creations of Chilean artists. The awards are honorary in nature and consist of a diploma containing a brief account of the merits and circumstances that justify the distinction, along with a sculpture created by Sergio Castillo Mandiola.

We are delighted to announce that our author Isabel Baboun has been selected as one of the writers for the Finestres Literary Residency. The Finestres Literary Residency, located in Catalonia, Spain, aims to provide an ideal space for imagination, reflection, literary creation, cultural exchange, and contact with nature. Each year, fifteen places are offered for writers to stay and work at the residency. Notable authors who have previously taken part in the residency include Mariana Enríquez, Irene Solà, Horacio Castellanos Moya, Leila Guerriero, and Gabriela Wiener. One of the selected writers this year is also Daniela Catrileo. Isabel Baboun will start the programm in February 2027.

We are happy to share that Gonçalo M. Tavares has been awarded the 2026 Formentor Prize for Literature, considered a prelude to the Nobel Prize in Literature.

This prize, which began in 1961 with the distinction of Samuel Beckett and Jorge Luis Borges, has in recent years been awarded to authors who, a few years later, received the Nobel Prize, as was very recently the case with Annie Ernaux and László Krasznahorkai.

The impressive list of previous winners includes, among others, Samuel Beckett, Jorge Luis Borges, Saul Bellow, Witold Gombrowicz, Javier Marías, Ricardo Piglia, Roberto Calasso, Mircea Cărtărescu, Annie Ernaux, Cees Nooteboom, César Aira, Liudmila Ulítskaya, Pascal Quignard, and László Krasznahorkai.

The jury praised Tavares’s work “for revealing the unexpected implications of a humanity frightened of itself, for recounting the paradoxical epic of contemporary loss, and for the boldness with which he has constructed a narrative free from the temptations of the obvious. (…) By blurring the strict boundaries that separate traditional literary genres, Tavares has sustained over the past 25 years a body of work marked by a powerful voice, dazzling originality, and vigorous imagination.”

Tavares is the first Portuguese writer to receive this prize, which carries an award of fifty thousand euros.

The Prize was founded by a renowned group of European publishers, including Carlos Barral, Claude Gallimard, Giulio Einaudi, Heinrich Maria Ledig-Rowohlt, Barney Rosset and Weidenfeld & Nicolson.
