Bachtyar Ali //
We are happy to announce that Bachtyar Ali‘s The Last Pomegranate Tree has been selected as one of the 100 Best Books of the 21st Century by NZZ.
The Neue Zürcher Zeitung was founded in 1780 and is one of the leading media in Switzerland and the German-speaking world.
Ali shares a list with other authors such as Jon Fosse, Han Kang, W.G. Sebald, Jonathan Franzen, Swetlana Alexijewitsch, Olga Tokarczuk, Péter Nádas, Karl Ove Knausgård, Annie Ernaux, Yuval Noah Harari, Hilary Mantel, Herta Müller, Ian McEwan, Nino Haratischwili, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Siri Hustvedt, Philip Roth or Joan Didion among others.
The selection is motivated as follows: “The great Kurdish writer Bachtyar Ali creates magical realism of his own kind. His poetic world reflects the bitter political reality of the Middle East and its people.”
