We are proud to announce that Patrícia Melo has won the Héroïne Madame Figaro Award 2024 in the category foreign novel for “The Simple Art of Killing a Woman”, which was published in French under the title “Celles qu’on tue” by Buchet Chastel.
The Grand Prix de l’Héroïne Madame Figaro is a French literary prize awarded annually since 2006 by the magazine Madame Figaro, in four categories for works featuring female protagonists. Initially, awards were only given in two categories: (French) novel and biographies or biographical writings. In 2010, the category of “foreign novel” was added. Since 2022, a fourth annual award ceremony is held for Graphic Novels.
The jury, chaired by Colombe Schneck, comprised prominent personalities, Madame Figaro journalists, and avid readers of the magazine.
Past winners in the category of foreign novel include Joyce Carol Oates, David Grossman, Jeffrey Eugenides, Alessandro Baricco, Ananda Devi, Joyce Maynard and Camila Sosa Villada.
The prize was awarded on 30 May at the Hotel Raphael in Paris.
