Machado de Assis Prize 2024

Alexandre Vidal Porto has been awarded the prestigious Machado de Assis Prize 2024, granted by the Brazilian Academy of Letters. This award is one of the most important literary prizes in Brazil. Vidal Porto’s novel Sodomite was honored in the category Best Novel.

There is now an appeals phase until 13 November, and the final result will be confirmed on 18 November.

Past winners include writers such as Marina Colasanti (2023), Rubem Fonseca (2015), Paulo Scott (2012), Joca Reiners Terron (2010), Daniel Galera (2008), Luiz Ruffato (2001), Carlos Heitor Cony (1996), João Guimarães Rosa (1961) and Érico Veríssimo (1953).

The prize will be handed over during a ceremony on December 13.
