Oceanos Prize announces its 10 finalists 2021
Among the 10 finalists of the Oceanos Prize – Portuguese Language Literature Prize 2021 – are Mia Couto (The Cartographer of Absences), Luís Cardoso (The Pumpkin Planter) and Gonçalo M. Tavares (The Middle Bone). The list includes eight novels, one book of short stories and one book of poems, written by authors from Brazil, Mozambique, Portugal and East Timor. Luís Cardoso is the first author from East Timor to be among the finalists in the history of the prize.

In the first stage of the award, 1,835 books were read and evaluated by a jury of 95 professionals that selected 54 semifinalists. In the second stage, seven jurors elected by the first jury chose the 10 finalists now presented. The winners will be known in December. The total value of the award is R$ 250,000 ( 40,000,00 EUR), of which R$ 120,000 (19,100 EUR) go to the first place, R$ 80,000 (12,700 EUR) are meant for the second place and R$ 50,000 (10,000 EUR) will be given to the third place.
